About Perlis

Magazine Street Store

For more than 70 years, the corner of Webster and Magazine streets has been home to Perlis.  Though the store has expanded many times, it has never outgrown its attitude towards our customers, whether they live a few blocks away or are visiting from around the world.  We have been successful because of our loyal customers and by constantly seeking out the most classic, well-made garments available to put on our shelves.

Our flagship store contains men’s, ladies, and boys departments, as well as our alterations shop and formalwear rental department.  Any of our sales associates can show you through the store and help you select the right items, from suits to sportswear, accessories, and gifts.  Even if you’re “just looking” we’ll be happy to have you in our store.

Jackson Brewery Store

Our location inside of the historic Jax Brewery showcases our full line of Crawfish logo merchandise, including our iconic Crawfish polo shirt, and a selection of New Orleans-themed gifts and accessories. The store is located right off of Jackson Square at the river’s edge of the French Quarter and shares in the laid back atmosphere of other shops along Decatur Street. Whether you’re a visitor from out of town or a local browsing after lunch at Maspero’s, our sales staff will help you find the right items to take home with you.

Northshore Store

Though tastes and styles may be slightly different on either side of Lake Pontchatrain, customers on the Northshore expect the same service and quality product that is available in our original Magazine Street store, and we strive to meet their needs. Here you can find the same great selection in clothing for men, ladies, and boys, as well as a custom department. The two full-service stores work in tandem so that anyone on the Northshore can have access to our full inventory and special order capabilities. Our location in Mandeville has its own expert sales staff, and alterations move back and forth between our stores daily. We will even send formalwear rentals over the Causeway for pickup.

Baton Rouge Store

In a significant development for the retail clothing market in Greater Baton Rouge, Cohn Turner, a destination for customers of high-end clothing for 53 years, today becomes Perlis Clothing. Acquired by the Perlis family in November 2012, Cohn Turner has been a Baton Rouge staple for fine clothing for over 50 years. Perlis, a specialty apparel retailer in South Louisiana with almost 75 years in business, is expanding its geographic reach while painstakingly guarding its traditions of excellent service and long-term relationships with customers. According to company President David W. Perlis, “Over the past few months, we have spoken with many customers and residents of Baton Rouge about the future of the Jefferson Highway location and Perlis’ role in the city. Those discussions confirm a Perlis store in Baton Rouge is best for our valued customers. We saw this as a perfect opportunity to act on our desire to contribute something new to a city which we have long aspired to be a part of. The Perlis family is thrilled about our future in the capitol city.” Perlis will carry many of the same fine products Cohn Turner had, but will expand offerings in sportswear and accessories including their signature Crawfish brand. The store has also undergone a complete renovation in the past few months in order to accommodate these new products and to better service both current and new customers. Perlis continues, “The Perlis family will operate this store the same way we have our other locations for 75 years – with exceptional customer service and a stock of stylish, quality products. We are not only committed to our customers, but also to their immediate and extended families. Perlis is a family business in every sense of the word and we are excited to become a part of the Baton Rouge community for generations to come.” The Perlis rebrand comes with local flair as Greater Baton Rouge resident Bobby Berthelot has been named General Manager. Berthelot previously spent six years as a sales consultant and made-to-measure clothing specialist for Brooks Brothers, where he was known for providing exceptional service and having a keen sense of southern style. Prior to that, he gained a stellar reputation in the Louisiana fashion industry through both selling and merchandising at Rubenstein’s, a men’s high-end specialty store in Downtown New Orleans. “I am excited for this opportunity to become the General Manager of Perlis’ Baton Rouge location. Perlis has a brilliant reputation based on superior customer service and has become easily identifiable throughout the south thanks to its Crawfish logo. I am eager to carry on that tradition of detailed and dedicated attention to our valued customers.” The Greater Baton Rouge region is invited to visit the newly remodeled store and see what the Jefferson Highway location has to offer – from suits to sundresses, signature Crawfish polos to various stylish accessories – during Perlis’ Grand Opening celebration on June 1st, 2013.
